Job Description
A rare opportunity has arisen to join the Lower District Harbour Master’s team as Assistant Harbour Master based at our Head Office in Gravesend.
The successful applicant will support the Harbour Master in meeting the requirements of the Port Marine Safety Code.
The role is extremely varied and includes undertaking incident investigations, enforcement of navigational, mooring, and vessel licensing issues, and being the primary point of contact for events in the Lower District as well as managing the Pilotage Exemption Certification process. The post is based at London River House (Gravesend), but the job holder will be required to work at other locations and out of hours on occasion.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious individual to take their first step into port management with the possibility of future advancement into senior management roles.
Applicants should hold a Boat Masters Licence (Tier 1 Level 2) with River Thames Local Knowledge Endorsement and be highly proficient in IT systems, including Microsoft Office and database systems.
You should have well developed communication skills being persuasive, tactful and assertive when necessary. Ideally you will be in possession of a UK Harbour Masters Certificate / Diploma or be able to demonstrate the aptitude to achieve this.
