Department: Finance (Commercial Team)
Reporting to: Head of Commercial Development
Salary: Variable depending on experience but up to £77,956 per annum & Car Allowance (Cash Alternative)
Base: Between Gravesend and London Office – With some occasional travel to other sites/locations.

The Port of London Authority is the statutory harbour authority for the tidal Thames.
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys problem solving and likes project and deals work. We are looking for someone with a proven track record of at least 5 years in commercial negotiation and developing business cases to join the commercial team within the Finance Department.
This new role will support the delivery of the PLA investment plan to help grow and develop the business, reporting to the Head of Commercial Development. The successful candidate will work with multiple areas of the PLA as well as its stakeholders and third parties. They will be expected to develop business cases and financial models to support investment decisions and will be expected to present those business cases to the PLA Investment Committee, which is a subcommittee of the PLA Board, and if approved lead on all necessary negotiations, contracts and agreements required to realise those opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have the confidence to take the lead throughout this process with support only as required, they will be a CCAB Qualified Accountant with experience of managing different stakeholder groups with a focus on customer experience. They should have strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills with the ability to be financially creative and open to the possibilities of different pricing models.
They should be able to demonstrate experience of working on transactions and knowledge of the impact that commercial terms can have on the outcome. A track record of having completed multiple transactions and a bank of experience of the pitfalls in commercial contracting is key.
The ability to write concise but comprehensive Board papers which present investment opportunities but stand up to scrutiny and cross examination.
A proactive, assertive, resilient and self-confident person who is tenacious, especially when dealing with difficult personalities and secure in their own ability to deal with challenging stakeholders and third parties.
