JOB SUMMARY

An excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to support the Group Financial Controller in developing a best-in-class financial control function, delivering robust financial reporting, strong financial governance, regulatory compliance and efficient core finance operations.

This is a hands-on role for an experienced finance professional with expertise in financial controls, statutory reporting, audit delivery, tax compliance and finance systems optimisation. The successful candidate will drive process improvements, strengthen core finance operations, and leverage technology to build scalable, efficient finance processes that support the Group’s continued growth.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality financial control within a Group Finance or Financial Control environment.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including statutory reporting.
  • Proven experience improving and embedding robust month-end close processes.
  • Experience managing external audits and statutory financial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, governance and compliance.
  • Experience within a multi-entity group environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent organisational and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and deliver against deadlines
  • Experience supporting finance transformation initiatives desirable.
  • Strong ERP systems knowledge, with genuine experience driving finance systems optimisation and process automation
  • Previous commercial (industry) experience required — this is not a first move from practice.

Requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Close & Reporting

  • Support the Group Financial Controller in delivering an accurate, timely and well-controlled month-end, quarter-end and year-end close.
  • Review, challenge and continuously improve the close process to reduce close timelines while strengthening the control environment.
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed, reviewed and resolved on a timely basis, maintaining the integrity of the Group balance sheet.
  • Monitor month-end deliverables, proactively resolving issues and ensuring deadlines are achieved.
  • Support the preparation of consolidated management accounts and statutory financial information.

Financial Control & Core Finance Operations

  • Lead initiatives to improve the efficiency, control and scalability of the Group’s core finance function across General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury and Fixed Assets.
  • Improve the efficiency, accuracy and consistency of transactional finance processes.
  • Drive clear ownership, accountability and governance across core finance processes
  • Ensure robust financial controls operate throughout all finance activities.

Statutory Reporting, Tax & Compliance

  • Support the preparation and delivery of statutory financial statements across the Group.
  • Take hands-on responsibility for preparing corporation tax and VAT filings, working with external advisers on complex or judgemental positions.
  • Maintain and enhance the Group’s financial control framework, ensuring compliance with accounting policies, financial regulations and internal controls.
  • Develop and maintain finance policies, procedures and standard operating practices.

External Audit

  • Support the planning and delivery of the Group’s external audit.
  • Act as a key point of contact for external auditors and coordinate information requests across the finance team.
  • Prepare audit-ready working papers and ensure statutory accounts and audit deliverables are completed accurately and to agreed timelines.
  • Support the implementation of audit recommendations, translating findings into control improvements.

Finance Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate finance processes through effective use of finance systems and technology.
  • Work closely with the Group Financial Controller to maximise the capability of ERP and finance systems.
  • Partner with Finance Systems and Technology teams to improve data quality, reporting capability and automation across the finance function.
  • Monitor key finance performance indicators, including month-end close performance, reconciliation completion and control metrics.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner closely with the Group Financial Controller to strengthen the capability and performance of the core finance team.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to finance colleagues.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, continuous improvement and operational excellence across the finance function.
  • Build effective relationships with operational and commercial stakeholders to improve the quality, accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
  • Act as deputy to the Group Financial Controller as required.
