Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator
Location: London (River Thames Operations)
Department: Risk, Safety & Compliance
Reports to: Senior Risk, Safety & Compliance Manager
Role Overview
Uber Boat by Thames Clippers is seeking an Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator to support the delivery and continuous improvement of our Environmental Management System (EMS) and wider ESG commitments.
This role will help embed environmental awareness across the business, support sustainability initiatives, and provide practical environmental advice to operational. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with departments including Fleet Operations, Engineering, Infrastructure, and Customer Operations to help reduce environmental impact and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their environmental or sustainability career who is passionate about driving positive environmental change.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Management System (EMS)
Support the maintenance and development of the company’s Environmental Management System in line with ISO 14001 principles.
Assist with environmental audits, inspections, and compliance monitoring activities.
Maintain environmental documentation, procedures, and records within company systems.
Track environmental performance data, KPIs, and improvement actions.
Sustainability & ESG Initiatives
Support delivery of sustainability projects aligned with the company’s ESG strategy.
Assist in researching and developing initiatives to reduce emissions, waste, and environmental impact across fleet and shore operations.
Contribute to ESG reporting requirements and data gathering.
Help promote environmental awareness campaigns and internal engagement activities.
Environmental Advice & Business Support
Provide day-to-day environmental guidance to operational teams.
Assist with environmental risk assessments and environmental aspects & impacts reviews.
Support departments in understanding environmental responsibilities and best practice.
Monitor relevant environmental legislation, industry developments, and emerging sustainability trends.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with engineering, fleet, and infrastructure teams to support greener operational practices.
Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support net-zero ambitions.
Support incident reviews where environmental factors are involved.
Requirements
Skills & Experience
Essential
Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
Good communication skills and ability to work with operational teams.
Interest in environmental sustainability and ESG principles.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
Understanding of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
Knowledge of environmental regulations relevant to maritime, transport, or infrastructure sectors.
Experience working within operational or safety-critical environments.
Membership of or working towards a professional environmental qualification (e.g., IEMA).
Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Environmental Management, Sustainability, Marine Studies, Geography, or related discipline.
