The Port of London Authority (PLA) is the statutory harbour authority for the tidal Thames. We are looking to fill the position of Marine River Inspector on the PLA’s Upper District Harbour Service Launch, based in Richmond.

The role requires a self-starter who has the determination and drive to work independently and as part of a small but closely knit team. Your focus will be to represent and act for the Harbour Master afloat, and when necessary, ensure vessels comply with port regulations. You will also attend incidents to render assistance and conduct preliminary investigations and support a growing number of recreational, filming and promotional events taking part on the Thames each year. Closely supporting the Harbour Master, you will also inspect river works, conduct routine berth inspections and provide assistance, guidance, advice and direction to recreational and commercial users of the Thames. You will also be required to take bookings and payment for the PLA’s drying out facilities at Isleworth and Strand on the Green.

You will have a minimum of a MCA Tier 1 Level 2 Boatmaster’s Licence with Thames Local Knowledge Endorsement. You will be confident, credible and enthusiastic, and have the ability, drive and communication skills to earn the respect of a wide range of stakeholders. Additionally, you will also be proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite.

The successful applicant will be employed on shift work on the basis of continuous rotating shifts of 10 hour days with an obligation to cover all operational requirements outside the 35-hour week.
