Job Description

We’re looking for experienced Masters who wish to further develop their career in the maritime industry and progress within Uber Boat by Thames Clippers in the position of Master, navigating our boats on the Thames. You’ll need to be focused, motivated and want to succeed. We will give you all the training and support you need so you’re set up for success.

You will work on board our boats that travel up and down the Thames, responsible the safe operation and navigation of our vessels, ensuring our customer’s safety at all times and making sure they have a wonderful journey with us.

You will be approachable, friendly and helpful, not only to the passengers on board, but also to your colleagues. We expect you to deliver the same amazing experience to our customers and team at the end of your shift as you do at the start.

As a Master you will be responsible for:

  • The safe operation of the vessel un the Thames Clipper Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Ensuring the Thames Clipper vessels are operated to the highest possible standards;
  • Maintaining the vessel, in compliance with all relevant legislation;
  • Carry out good ship management duties, defect & incident reporting;
  • Operating Thames Clipper vessels in alignment with our service delivery requirements, with a primary emphasis on maintaining customer satisfaction & vessel housekeeping;
  • Ensure team members diligently inspect tickets at boarding locations, placing a significant emphasis on revenue protection.

You will be responsible for all compliance with the on board Safety Management Systems and the conditions of the MCA Passenger Certificate. Ensuring the vessels safety equipment is adhered to and Thames Clippers operating procedures are followed.

You will manage crew on board and ensure that the crew are trained to a high level in the provision of safety to passengers and themselves.

Will require the following qualifications & Experience:

  • MCA Boat Master’s Licence, Tier 1 Level 2, or relevant transferable licenses
  • MCA MSN1853 (M) Amendment 1 – Annex 4 & 5)
  • Current ML5 or ENG 1 Medical Certificate
  • STCW Sea Survival
  • STCW Fire Fighting
  • VHF or equivalent GMDSS Qualification.
  • Passenger vessel experience.
  • Elementary First Aid

Desirable:

  • Experience in close quarters vessel handling and or inland waterways
  • MCA Passenger Boat Endorsement
  • Thames LKE Endorsement
  • Fast Craft Endorsement
  • International Safety Management Code (ISM) & International code for High Speed Craft (HSCC)

Salary: £52,429 – £56,563 (Depending on experience)

We are looking for people who are highly self-motivated and have a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team to establish good professional relationships with colleagues.

You must have a genuine desire and ability to work with the public in a front line, customer focused environment and be committed and flexible in your approach to work.

Where: You’ll be based on our boats, which are moored at our offices at Clipper House, Trinity Buoy Wharf, Poplar, London E14 0JY, a short walk from Canning Town tube or a hop across the river on our staff boat, from North Greenwich tube

When: Shift work based on a Monday-Sunday split shift rotation, between the hours of am 04:30 & 01:30am.
