Salary Package: Up to £54,000 per annum

(£43,260 South Essex College salary plus salary supplement from Thames Skills Academy, representing River Thames employers)

Are you an experienced Marine Engineering professional ready to lead and shape the future of marine engineering education?

South Essex Colleges Group is seeking an ambitious Tutor Assessor & Curriculum Lead in Marine Engineering for our Marine Engineering provision while teaching, coaching and assessing apprentices and full-time learners.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity linked with national industry to take a leading role in continuing to expand and develop our outstanding Marine Engineering curriculum. You will combine high-quality teaching and assessment with curriculum leadership, substantial
employer engagement and industry collaboration, ensuring learners gain the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the sector.

The post is based at South Essex College Luckyn Lane, Basildon, Essex SS14 3AX.

You will be based at campus three days a week; the other two days you will visit apprentices at their workplace and undertake marking/assessments which can be undertaken working at home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of the Marine Engineering curriculum.
  • Teach, coach and assess apprentices and full-time learners.
  • Support apprentices through to successful End Point Assessment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employers and industry partners.
  • Drive learner achievement, progression and positive destinations.
  • Promote innovation, quality and employer-led curriculum development.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Level 3 Marine Engineering qualification (or equivalent Electrical/Mechanical qualification).
  • Significant marine industry experience.
  • Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to learner success, health and safety, and equality and diversity.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Teaching and/or Assessor qualifications.
  • Experience working with apprentices.
  • Knowledge of hybrid, electric and alternative fuel marine systems.
  • Commercial or leisure marine engineering experience.
