Cory is recruiting for the position of Assistant Plant Operator at their Energy from Waste Facility in Belvedere, Kent.
Using waste that would otherwise have gone to landfill as fuel to generate electricity. The facility generates c.575,000MWh of electricity each year from processing c.800,000 tonnes of waste. The company uses the river Thames as a green highway to move waste from London on tugs and barges, effectively removing 100,000 truck movements a year off roads. By generating electricity from residual waste, the plant is improving resource efficiency, avoiding landfill use and achieving greater sustainability as part of London’s circular economy.
Summary of Role:
The holder of this role will provide an important function that directly contributes to the daily working and smooth running of the Riverside EfW facility through various operational duties and responsibilities.
Under the direction of the Shift Team Leader and Plant Operator, the role is to ensure safe and efficient operation of all machinery and equipment associated with the energy from waste facility whilst complying with health, safety, environmental and operational procedures. Assist in first line process diagnostics, fault finding and defect rectification to maintain optimum plant production.
A summary of the role duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- To be aware of and carry out tasks in line with the site environmental permit and H&S legislation
- Maintain health and safety and security of site at all times
- Manage risks and hazards associated to the operation of the EfW facility in own area of responsibility
- Understand site emergency procedures and react accordingly when presented with any scenario
- Correctly operate, plant, equipment and vehicles during steady state, start up, shutdown and emergency situations as directed from the Plant Operator and STL
- Operate waste and ash cranes and mobile plant as necessary
- To carry out daily maintenance and safety checks on plant, equipment, and vehicles
- Carry out routine plant inspections and adjustments/operations as required, collecting and recording plant data
- Implement work instructions and assist in the application of the site safety rules
- Contribute to the review of documentation as necessary

Job requirements
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following essential knowledge, skills and experience:

It would be desirable to have the following qualifications and experience:
- Relevant ONC / NVQ – Boiler and Plant Operation
- Health & Safety Training – IOSH Working Safely or equivalent.
- Experience in EfW plants
- Engineering experience
Other Requirements
- Must be prepared to work additional hours, Shift Rota, Bank Holidays and weekend as required
- Provide shift rota cover to ensure continuous operation of the Energy Recovery Facility
- Physically fit to be able to carry out general manual handling of tasks
- A keenness for personal development
- Valid driving licence
