Salary – dependent on experience

We operate public dining and sightseeing cruises as well as private charters for corporate events, birthday parties, weddings, or other special occasions across London and York.
Position Summary:
The Health and Safety Manager position will ensure that City Cruises UK provides a safe-working environment, which ensures Health and Safety legislative compliance. This role will provide consistently high standards, guest service and employee engagement. This position will drive safety forward across the organisation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for staying updated on the ever-changing maritime laws and regulations and ensuring that the organisation adheres to them within all UK ports.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory changes, assess their impact on the organisation, and implement necessary measures to ensure compliance. .
- Ensure areas of Safety, Security, environmental protection and labor standards are kept to the highest standard within the operation.
- Ensure the Safety Management System is adhered to and kept up to date with any relevant changes.
- Lead the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures to ensure the safety of our passengers, crew, and vessels.
- Serve as the Designated person being the primary contact between the boat crew and shore-based management, with direct access to top management for addressing safety concerns.
- Appoint a Deputy Designated person to deputise when the Designated person is away from the operation.
- Imbed a strong safety culture across the UK operations.
- Establish monitoring and auditing processes to assess compliance with regulations and internal policies.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to compliance activities, including incident reports, audits, and corrective actions.
- Prepare reports for senior management and regulatory authorities to demonstrate the organization’s compliance status and progress.
- Ensure all crew certification is in date and readily available for internal and external audits.
- Responsible for updating and monitoring HELM connect for Compliance, Personnel and Training
- Oversee all Marine Operation training requirements within City cruises London.
- To produce and control the Safety, Training and Compliance budget for the Operations department.
- To ensure all crew are engaged in Thames CPD and monitor individuals progress on an annual basis.
- Develop and monitor all Boat crew training programs that meet ISM standards whilst ensuring the highest level of safety and quality.
- To produce training materials, manuals, programs, and documentation for each course offered.
- Ensure that Apprentices are being mentored and are fully supported throughout their apprenticeship.
To be the first point of contact for external agencies relating to all training requirements. - To develop and implement internal training programs to cover induction, safety of crew onboard vessels, SMS and ISM compliance.
Overall responsibility for the safety of all employees and contractors when carrying out their day-to-day activities at City Cruises. - To advise the Directors and Managers on all Health & Safety and welfare matters to ensure the Company complies with its statutory obligations.
- Understand the application of the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974 and other legislation relevant to the Companies business.
- Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of Health and Safety. Ensure that all “assessments” are conducted and reviewed at relevant intervals and to update records accordingly.
- Evaluate practices across the organization relating to procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.
- To undertake all risk assessments as required
- As Designated Person ensure thorough Investigation into accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims.
- Recommend control measures and advise on the standard of P.P.E. issued to employees. Oversee the purchasing of all PPE and manage the budget accordingly.
- Conduct Health and Safety inspections and prepare reports of all the company’s operations.
- When a safety matter is identified, contact the Directors of any department who are responsible and recommend actions needed to rectify the situation. Work with the department to correct the matter.
- To notify the Managing Director if the corrective action agreed after any workplace inspection is not implemented by the arranged date.
- Carry out investigations into all accidents and near-miss incidents and to record the findings on the relevant forms.
- Advise the Directors of all incidents reportable under R.I.D.D.O.R. Report such incidents to the Hornblower group.
- Observing all safety requirements/procedures.
- To work across all City Cruises UK locations
- Be an Ambassador for our RESPECT Service System with a strong focus to 1#SAFETY
- Other Ad-hoc duties as required
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Designated Person qualification/experience preferable but not compulsory
- Proven experience as Health and Safety manager
- Understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
- Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
- Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills
- Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
- Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
